In the US the faltering economy has had a significant impact on the population as well as people’s everyday lives.  People have been affected directly by the unstable economic climate due to public budget cuts and increased crime rates. And because of this more and more companies are choosing to tighten their security measures as a direct result.

Lots of businesses are trying to combat the rising crime rates by hiring security guards to keep watch over their premises and deter intruders, trespassers, burglars and vandals. An expert has said
“I think as the economy gets worse and worse, and more people are out of work, people get desperate to find some sort of income, so crime goes up, drug abuse goes up,”.

In the US the faltering economy has had a significant impact on the population as well as people’s everyday lives.  People have been affected directly by the unstable economic climate due to public budget cuts and increased crime rates. And because of this more and more companies are choosing to tighten their security measures as a direct result.

One company based in the US has hired around 17% more staff and continues to look for more to add to its fast growing security team.  Its predicted that the demand for security guards will continue to grow over the next few years at an average rate of around 50%, creating a further 1,800 new jobs in total with 90 new roles becoming available each year.  These jobs are predicted to open up in a wide range of areas including retail, manufacturing, transportation, finance, health care and construction.

Though people may be attracted to the generous salary and flexible work hours the job can have its tough points- working the graveyard shift and trying to stay awake, as well as running intruders off of property and sometimes endangering your health to name just a few.

However, from a business owner’s perspective hiring a security guard in an attempt to protect your property is not always the ideal solution. This is because there is always the prospect of human error- that your security guard may show up for work late, leave early or even fall asleep during a night shift. There is also the very real risk that your security guard may get injured by an intruder for which you may be held liable.

A much better option compared to hiring a security guard is to purchase some electronic security systems, such as site CCTV.  The benefit of installing a site CCTV system is that it is a one off cost, and it can be programmed to watch over the site 24 hours per day, every day of the year. Some advanced systems even allow remote access- which means that even if you are not physically present on the site you can log on using a password anywhere in the world via the internet to watch the goings on at the site.

Site CCTV is also more reliable than a security guard, and you can watch all the cameras on one central control unit which allows you to keep a close watch on all areas of the site.  The problem with a security guard is that they can only be in once place at a time, and only have one set of eyes so may not see the intruder that broke in broke, or may only catch a glimpse. With CCTV you have solid, conclusive evidence of vandals and burglars that can be used in court in order to bring a criminal to justice.
